Puffin Class

Welcome to Puffins class! I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead filled with fun, learning and enjoyment. We have three exciting topics to look forward to: Stone Age, Volcanoes & Mountains and finally, Romans. These topics will create a hook for children to engage their learning and will link all areas of the curriculum. This learning should be assisted by a good collaboration with adults from home to support the children’s learning. I look forward to a fabulous year with Puffins class!

Welcome to the Spring Term in Puffins!

Congratulations Year 3… a successful term under your belts already! We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are ready for what awaits us in the Spring Term.

This term we will be finding out about Australia as part of our learning as Geographers!  We will be doing a variety of different activities to discover more about this part of the world.

Children are expected to read 5 times a week, and they all have a bookmark that they can record on. An adult needs to sign the bookmark each time your child finishes a book so that class reading records can be updated regularly.

Each week the children will be sent home with a spelling list to learn. Children will be expected to write each word in a complete sentence. The books will be collected in each Monday, and new words will be sent home. In addition to this, all children have a Times Table Rockstars login. We have seen a huge increase in children’s times tables speed for those who are completing this at home as well as in school. Well done to those children and lets see if we can get more children involved at home!

This term PE will be on Monday afternoons and Tuesday mornings.  Please ensure that children have their PE kits in school at all times as extra PE lessons are often added to our weekly timetables. Please make sure that your child can take their earrings out if they have pierced ears. They cannot have earrings covered with tape.

Please sign up to Seesaw so that you can see what your child is learning in school. If you are having trouble signing up, please contact us via the school office. We are putting increasing amounts of information on to Seesaw so it is important to have parent support.

Please remember that for enrichment sessions on a Wednesday so children need to be dressed appropriately for their activities. If children will be leaving the school site, parents will receive a parentmail. Children are expected to wear their school jumper when they leave the site.

Making Contact

One of us will be at the canteen door every day after school for an exchange of information if needed. If you would like more time to talk, please let us know and we will arrange a time with you.

Here’s to a great term of learning!

Puffins’ Learning Spring 2020

Our book in English this half term has been Moon Man. In our English lessons, the children wrote fantastic poems about the moon using fantastic vocabulary. Here are a few examples:

Moon Is

Moon is pearly pearly.

Moon is like a cold ghost orbiting round space.

Moon is a sheet of a collasal rock.

Moon is huge and pale.

Moon is like a snowy ball from far far away.

Moon is as bright like a star up above the sky.

Moon is enormous and round not making a sound.

Moon is a silver sphere and round.

Moon is as bright as a light bulb.

but mostly moon is a ghost carrier.

Moon is

High,high, high

It is huge in my eyes,t

In science, the children have been learning about rocks, particularly focusing on the different types as well as how fossils are formed. The children learnt the story of a fossil, putting actions to it and then made one themselves. The children really enjoyed fossilising a dog biscuit and following the process.

Finally, in music the children have learnt a new song by Bob Marley. Although it was not the children’s usual style, they thoroughly enjoyed listening, learning and performing the song. The children did an excellent job performing in our class assembly too!
